Position Information

Millers Forest Public School is a small, vibrant institution located in a rural area bordered by Maitland, Thornton, Woodberry, Chisholm, and Raymond Terrace. Our expansive grounds provide an ideal setting for engaging and challenging learning experiences that support the individual development of each student, with a strong emphasis on explicit teaching. The school is equipped with three well-resourced classrooms and a spacious library that serves as a hub for learning and exploration. We offer a diverse range of extracurricular activities in areas such as sport, music, technology, and dance, enabling all students to thrive and fostering a well-rounded education. Our long-standing partnerships with the East Maitland Kiwanis Club and the Baiada Initiative, whose motto is 'Always Looking Forward,' further enhance the opportunities available to our students.

In 2025, Millers Forest Public School has 56 students enrolled. Our student body reflects a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds, with 11 students identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. To better understand our community's needs, we conducted a comprehensive situational analysis that included input from students, parents, staff, the P&C, the local AECG, and relevant stakeholders. This analysis informed our school excellence plan, highlighting key areas for development: the implementation of data-driven practices, a continued focus on explicit teaching to ensure equitable access to learning in reading and numeracy, and addressing the wellbeing needs of all students to create a supportive learning environment.

General Selection Criteria

  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.
  • Proven ability to manage the multifaceted responsibilities of a teaching principal while remaining focused on the delivery of high-quality instructional leadership focused on system priorities.
  • Demonstrated dynamic leadership skills that effectively navigates the school community through both short-term and long-term transitions in a responsive and a consultative approach.
  • Committed to fostering a positive school environment through proactive strategies that prioritises the wellbeing of both students and staff.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Classification Structure For Principals

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2017 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP2 for 2025.
