The 2IC Cleaning position will support the Cleaning Services Manager in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. You will oversee the procedures and policies of the cleaning department and ensure operational systems are effective for the Zoo's cleaning staff.

To succeed in this role, you should have proven leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative attitude. You must be a quick thinker, willing to assist the team as needed.

Primary Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning all amenities and public areas (admissions, entrance, administration building, footpaths, demonstration areas)
  • General cleaning of office spaces as required
  • Waste disposal and litter removal across the zoo property
  • Maintaining pathways, access areas, service roads, and main buildings
  • Removing cobwebs and bird excrement
  • Cleaning spills and maintaining safety standards with chemicals and equipment
  • Sanitising high-touch points
  • Maintaining department equipment
  • Supervising cleaning staff according to policies and procedures
  • Supporting staff training and development
  • Updating procedures in collaboration with the Cleaning Services Manager
  • Storing chemicals safely in accordance with Safety Data Sheets and WHS guidelines
  • Rostering staff effectively and efficiently
  • Providing guest assistance with directions and information
  • Maintaining high customer service standards
  • Upholding privacy and confidentiality
  • Following WHS protocols to ensure safety for all
  • Participating in performance reviews and meetings
  • Working collaboratively within the team
  • Performing other duties as required by management

Essential Criteria:

  • Current Driver's Licence (manual preferred)
  • Availability to work weekends, public holidays, and school holiday periods
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Proof of HepB Vaccination (or exemption)
