Overview

Data Governance Analyst ( Power BI ) — Sydney Hybrid

An established and fast-growing organisation is seeking a Data Governance & Strategy Analyst to drive the development and implementation of enterprise-wide data governance, management procedures and best practices. This is a key role in shaping the organisation's evolving data strategy and ensuring data is treated as a valuable and strategic asset.

Key Responsibilities for the Data Governance Analyst ( Power BI )
  • Lead and promote an organisational understanding of the role and value of data
  • Define and implement data governance policies, data management procedures, and quality standards
  • Identify and support the types of data captured across the organisation
  • Monitor adherence to governance frameworks and recommend improvements
  • Collaborate with architecture, security, and platform teams to ensure data solutions are aligned with governance best practices
  • Support business units in developing meaningful reports, dashboards, and data-driven insights
  • Promote best practices in data visualisation, stewardship, and metadata management
  • Ensure large and complex datasets are structured, accessible, and actionable
Required experience and qualifications
  • Proven experience working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure)
  • Strong skills in Power BI and data visualisation
  • Exposure to Git, Python, SQL, and XML
  • Demonstrated commercial impact through past data governance and strategy projects
  • Solid understanding of data governance frameworks and compliance obligations (e.g., Privacy Act)
  • Experience with data management tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview or similar)
  • Familiar with industry frameworks such as COBIT, ISO 27001, GDPR, DMBOK, or ISO 42001 for AI/ML governance
  • Skilled in metadata management, data lineage, and quality assurance
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, IT, or related field
