What you'd be doing in this role

We're seeking a Policy & Impact Communications Manager to join Canva. In this role, you'll creatively communicate our social impact, amplify the work of the Canva Foundation, and strengthen our relationships with key stakeholders, including philanthropic, government, academic, and community groups. You'll help craft narratives around Canva's contribution to social good and our philanthropic initiatives.

Your work will include storytelling, community events, policy campaigns, and public engagement to bring our philanthropic efforts to life in meaningful and strategic ways.

Based in Sydney and reporting to the Head of Corporate and Internal Communications, this role works across internal and external audiences within the Founder & Internal Comms team. You'll collaborate with Public Policy, Canva Foundation, Global Communications, and Canva Leadership to shape impactful narratives and systems.

What You'll Do

• Develop compelling content across various formats, including internal updates, policy submissions, academic papers, media releases, blog posts, briefing documents, opinion pieces, talk tracks, social media content, speeches, and videos.
• Build and manage strategic campaigns that translate big ideas into inspiring programs and narratives, driving real-world impact with diverse audiences. A marketing and community mindset is a plus—this role combines strategy, storytelling, and startup energy.
• Lead communications for the Canva Foundation, including annual reports, event communications, media engagement, community outreach, and thought leadership.
• Support Canva's presence at global events like Davos, TED, and UNGA, organizing community and philanthropic engagement, and assisting spokespeople with messaging, speeches, and toolkits.
• Work with teams across Canva to simplify complex technical or academic material into clear, engaging content for varied audiences, from governments and think tanks to internal teams and the public.
• Build and maintain relationships with media, community stakeholders, and academic audiences.
• Partner with internal communications, external communications, and public policy teams to ensure our philanthropic storytelling is aligned, impactful, and thoughtful.

• Are an exceptional communicator, both written and visual, capable of tailoring tone for different audiences and channels, from blogs to academic papers, social media, speeches, and Slack threads. You adapt quickly and work effectively with creative teams.
• Thrive in ambiguity and enjoy transforming abstract ideas into concrete campaigns. You are a systems thinker, able to see both the big picture and details, and anticipate future needs.
• Have experience in strategic communications, social impact, speechwriting, or media advisory roles; experience with government or policy is a plus.
• Have a deep interest in social impact, policy, and community engagement, and want to bridge philanthropy and action. You challenge the status quo with new ideas and build consensus.
• Bring curiosity, creativity, and clarity to all tasks, from event planning to social media to presentations.

Your Experience...

• 5+ years in strategic communications, social impact, speechwriting, or media advisory roles; experience with public policy or government roles is a plus.
• Strong research and synthesis skills, confident in navigating academic papers and policy reports to craft strategic narratives.
• Proven ability to write for diverse audiences and platforms, balancing credibility with accessibility.
• Experience leading campaigns in philanthropy, social impact, or research communication, with an understanding of public affairs and systems change.
• Strong relationships in philanthropic, government, or media sectors are a plus.
• A proactive, mission-driven, collaborative mindset eager to build and shape impactful initiatives.
