Join to apply for the 2026 Australian Government Apprenticeship Program role at Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
About the program: If you are looking for a career change, to re-enter the workforce, or kickstart your career in the Australian Public Service (APS), the Australian Government Apprenticeship Program (AGAP) is an opportunity to take your career in a new direction. AGAP aims to provide everyday Australians with the opportunity to bring their diverse work and life experience to the APS, helping to diversify the APS by offering broader eligibility with no pre-requisite qualifications.
This 12-month program offers participants a learning and development pathway, expanding their personal and professional capabilities, all while building confidence in a career with the APS. Participants are supported every step of the way, with opportunities to learn and grow on the job. Coordinated by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), a single application enables participants to be considered for apprenticeship roles across the APS. More than just a job, this is an opportunity to launch a long-term career filled with opportunities to learn new skills, with the potential for advancement and most importantly, a chance to work on issues that matter.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesAs an example, responsibilities at the APS 3 Classification may include the following:
- Contributing to team goals and participating in teamwork activities. Building and sustaining positive relationships with team members and clients. Responding under direction to changes in client needs and expectations.
- Setting priorities, completing allocated tasks, making decisions within defined parameters relating to the area of responsibility. Planning own work goals and priorities that align with and achieve own and team outcomes.
- Working under general supervision and direction against established priorities and procedures. Exercising some autonomy about how work tasks are performed. Making decisions within defined parameters and following established procedures and protocols.
- Understanding relevant legislation and policy frameworks. Providing advice using established policy and procedures as a guide.
- Undertaking straightforward tasks which may have an element of complexity. Contributing to the improvement of quality and efficiency of services.
Applications are to be submitted using the department's eRecruit (online recruitment) system.
EligibilityTo be eligible for the program, you must:
- Be an Australian Citizen.
- Be willing to undergo any police, character, health or other checks, as required.
