The RoleThe Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Indigenous students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.
Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO provides support and guidance to Indigenous students, particularly those at risk, to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom. With a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony.
In addition to providing support to teachers and students, the AIEO also works closely with the local Indigenous community to facilitate their involvement in shaping school policies and programs. They also conduct home visits to discuss the academic progress or social development of students and provide orientation to staff about the Indigenous community.

EligibilityTo work with us, you must:
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, parents, community members and professional staff on the provision and development of educational programs.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact on a range of levels in a variety of settings and with different audiences, including community members, teaching and other professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a school-level team and to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and behaviour management programs.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students
