Responsibilities

As a Cost Manager in our expanding Canberra office, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing expert cost management services across various stages of construction projects, particularly for government agencies such as the Department of Education, Defence, and Health.
  • Developing and maintaining detailed cost plans, from initial concept through to project completion, ensuring accuracy and alignment with client budgets.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and value engineering exercises to optimise project costs without compromising quality.
  • Preparing and analysing tender documentation, including bills of quantities and schedules of rates.
  • Negotiating with contractors and suppliers to ensure best value for our clients.
  • Monitoring and reporting on project costs, including cash flow forecasting and cost-to-complete analyses.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and other consultants to ensure effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilising CostX software to enhance accuracy and efficiency in cost estimating and reporting.
  • Staying across industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes that may impact project costs.
  • Representing Turner & Townsend at client meetings and industry events, upholding our strong reputation and values.
  • Contributing to business development initiatives and proposal writing to secure new projects and clients.
  • Ensuring compliance with Turner & Townsend's quality management systems and procedures.
  • Participating in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance your expertise in cost management practices.
Qualifications
  • Recognised degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar field.
  • 3-10+ years of experience in cost management roles, ideally in a consultancy environment.
  • Previous experience working on construction projects for Government agencies such as Dept of Education, Defence and Health (highly desirable).
  • Experience liaising or managing clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Preferable RICS and/or AIQS accreditation.
  • Proficiency in CostX software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and prepare detailed cost reports.
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian construction standards, building codes, and regulations.
  • Proven track record of delivering accurate cost plans and budgets for large-scale projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
