Hobart, Tasmania, Australia MyState Bank Full time
Overview

Lead Payroll Transformation at a Growing National Bank. There has never been a more exciting time to join MyState Bank. With our recent merger with Auswide Bank, we're bringing together over 120 years of experience and expanding our presence across Australia's East Coast. We're combining the stability of a trusted, customer-first bank with the energy of a growing, innovative organisation. That means new opportunities to influence change and the opportunity to help shape a bank that's investing heavily in its people, its customers, and its future. This role is advertised in Brisbane, Bundaberg and Hobart and can be worked from any of those locations.

About The Role

As Payroll Manager, you'll lead a talented team and play a pivotal role in delivering accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll services for our growing organisation. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of payroll as we transition from an outsourced model to an in-house function, building strong processes, optimising systems, and creating a best-in-class employee experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coach a high-performing payroll team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage end-to-end payroll operations for a medium-to-large workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality.
  • Oversee fortnightly cycles, superannuation, PAYG, deductions, and leave entitlements.
  • Drive the transition to in-house payroll, including system optimisation and process redesign.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on payroll legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements.
  • Lead payroll audits, internal controls, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with Finance and People teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and workforce planning.
  • Champion innovation by improving payroll systems (Chris21/iChris) and integrating new technology.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and deliver exceptional service to leaders and employees.
What You'll Bring
  • 10+ years' experience managing payroll in a medium-to-large organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements.
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of team development and service excellence.
  • Payroll systems expertise, ideally Chris21/iChris, plus strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • A relevant qualification in HR, Finance, or a related field (postgraduate study is a plus).
  • Banking/finance industry knowledge is desirable but not essential.
You'll Thrive Here If You
  • Lead with clarity, purpose, and a people-first mindset.
  • See change as an opportunity to innovate and grow.
  • Use data, detail, and insight to guide decision-making.
  • Collaborate openly and build trusted relationships.
  • Take ownership, challenge the status quo, and deliver excellence.

Applications close Monday 29 September 2025.

If you're ready to lead our payroll team, apply today and join a bank where your contribution truly matters.

Employment with MyState is subject to background checks including Bankruptcy, Police, and Credit checks to verify your suitability to work in the finance sector. We are an equal opportunity employer, committed to creating an inclusive work environment where everyone is valued.
