Centacare has a workforce of more than 3,000, plus volunteers, operating in over 200 locations to support tens of thousands of people each year. Client-centred care, facilitated through various practice governance measures, is foundational to delivering high-quality services and ensuring continuous improvement in safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness, as well as enhancing client and staff satisfaction.

The role:

We are seeking an experienced Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner to join our team on the Sunshine Coast for a 12-month contract. In this role, you will work across several state-funded domestic violence programs, providing intake, counselling, court support, and group work to individuals who have experienced domestic and family violence. Key Duties:

  2. Providing domestic and family violence counselling, psychoeducation, and group work.
  3. Supporting clients attending court regarding domestic and family violence matters.
  4. Assisting individuals in identifying their goals and immediate needs to enhance their safety, agency, and autonomy.
  5. Advocating for clients experiencing violence and abuse, making referrals, assessing eligibility for safety upgrades, and other practical assistance.
  6. Participating in meetings and liaising with local stakeholders, e.g., Police, Child Safety, Corrections, and Housing.
Skills and Experience:
  • Understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act, and Family Law Act, and their impacts on families engaged in these systems.
  • Effective articulation of a well-developed practice framework.
  • Minimum of two years' experience managing intake, risk assessment, safety planning, court support, psychoeducation, referral pathways, DVO assistance, and group work.
  • Knowledge and experience in trauma-informed care, crisis triage, and risk management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage confronting situations.
  • Strong report writing, case notes, data collection, and computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to advocate for clients' needs with statutory organizations.
  • Professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to support and work with diverse families with complex needs.
Essential requirements for the role:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science, with eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, PACFA, or ACA.
  • Current QLD Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.
  • Evidence of Australian Work Rights.
  • Current Police Check (within the last three months).
  • A valid driver's license.
Why Work for us?

We offer a competitive remuneration package aligned with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award Level 5. Salary packaging options are available to increase your take-home pay by up to $15,900.
