Adviser Health and Safety - Community Corrections

Are you passionate about health and safety and want to contribute to positive outcomes for staff and the department? Queensland Corrective Services are seeking enthusiastic Health and Safety Practitioners to undertake the role of Safety Advisor. There are two positions available: one based in Cairns or Townsville serving Far Northern, Northern and Central Regions (Rockhampton to Mt Isa and up to Weipa), and one based in Brisbane serving Brisbane, Southern, South Coast, North Coast and Central Regions (Gold Coast to Roma and up to Gladstone).

As a member of the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing team, your focus will be to contribute to the Department's commitment to providing and maintaining a culture for a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment. The team fosters current practices supported by leadership and a collaborative effort from all individuals within the Department to create a safe and healthy environment. These practices are informed by workplace policies that promote psychological safety.

This role provides significant support and advice to Community Correction management teams to promote and embed a safety culture across the service and assist with the implementation and review of the QCS Health Safety and Wellbeing framework.

Responsibilities
  • Provide safety leadership and advice to Community Correction management teams to promote and embed a safety culture across the service.
  • Assist with the implementation and review of the QCS Health Safety and Wellbeing framework.
Essential Requirements
  • Knowledge: Sound knowledge and proven experience in work health and safety systems and delivery within a complex and large community environment. Apply this knowledge to achieve improved safety and wellbeing outcomes for Queensland Corrective Services.
  • Communication: Communicate with influence and respect to all people, recognizing different information needs, valuing differences, and collaborating to balance stakeholder and service delivery outcomes.
  • Building enduring relationships: Communicate clearly and considerately, build rapport, and work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve goals.
