Fitzroy Mining Operations is a new force in the Queensland metallurgical coal mining industry with a portfolio of existing operations and a pipeline of growth projects.  In our short history, we have successfully reinvigorated operations at Carborough Downs underground mine, breathed new life into the Broadlea open cut and we also have our new underground longwall mine at Ironbark No.1.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety, Training & Risk, we are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented HSTR Specialist to join our Health, Safety, Training & Risk team. This is a pivotal role that supports the effective management of HSTR systems across the organisation and ensures all related documentation, processes, and systems are compliant, current, and aligned with both legislative and organisational standards.

Working closely with both corporate and operational teams, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our safety culture and support decision-making through our systems and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Develop, implement and maintain HSTR system documentation, including technical writing.
  • Ensure document control and compliance for all HSTR-related materials.
  • Monitor and update HSTR documentation to reflect changes in legislation or standards.
  • Support the rollout and maintenance of HSTR information systems.
  • Analyse and present HSTR data to meet reporting needs and support decision-making.
  • Provide administrative support to the HSTR Team.
  • Advise operational teams to support continuous improvement of HSTR documentation.
  • Assist with onboarding of new HSTR personnel across corporate and operational areas.
  • Support incident investigations and present findings in a clear and actionable format.
  • Develop and maintain assurance activities related to HSTR.

About You

  • 3 years in a similar role (within a mining organisation - desirable)
  • Experience in the use of information systems (such as SharePoint, Pulse Vantage, Onsite Trackeasy and INX).
  • Demonstrated document technical writing experience with document control.
  • Thorough knowledge of Coal Mining legislation and its application to the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).
  • Extensive knowledge of health and safety management systems, auditing and incident reporting and investigation. RIIWHS601 (G7) desired, along with ICAM Lead desirable.
  • Risk assessment facilitation.
  • High level of safety metric data analysis skills.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and standards.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills including stakeholder engagement and negotiation.
