Rural Water Policy is a dynamic, outcomes-driven, and supportive team with the Water and Catchments Group, with a great workplace culture and who value collaboration, creativity and service excellence.
The team works across a variety of rural water management challenges and opportunities, including those related to socio-economic shifts in irrigated agricultural communities, sustainable water use practices and planning, intersections with renewable energy investment, and other complex and unique policy issues.
A key focus for this Senior Policy Officer position is to provide advice and analysis from a sustainable irrigated agricultural perspective to support implementation of high-profile water policy initiatives such as the Murray Darling Basin Plan, Sustainable Water Strategies, and land and water management plans.
There will be an opportunity in this role to help set the future strategic priorities of the Rural Water Policy team and to engage with other elements of the team's diverse work program as well as broader water sector intersections.
The role is suited to a highly motivated individual who is outcomes driven and able to form and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
The Successful Candidate Will Also Be Able To
- Lead development and design of Victoria's ongoing socio-economic response to the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
- Develop policy options on a range of rural water policy matters, including regional support and transition.
- Oversee the statutory approval process in relation to the consideration of renewable energy developments in declared irrigation districts.
- University Degree in science, economics, natural resource management, policy, engineering, law or another related discipline.
- Experience working in the Victorian water sector is highly desirable.
- Experience working with regional and rural communities is highly desirable.
