Overview

Join to apply for the Real-time System Operations Specialist role at Transgrid. Based at Newcastle or Eastern Creek. Transgrid is building its Control Centre capability to strengthen the resilience of Australia's high-voltage transmission network. This role supports the System Resilience team and delivers operational technology solutions to the control centre beyond 2031. From 2026, the position transitions into a product leadership role, managing a small team that delivers value directly to control room operators.

Reporting to the Future Control Centre Manager, this role brings real-world control centre experience into projects, ensuring operational requirements are embedded in technical solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and support initiatives including a major SCADA/EMS upgrade
  • Translate operational needs into robust technical requirements
  • Conduct user acceptance testing, defect resolution and validation of solutions
  • Collaborate with technical and operational teams to optimise system design
  • Identify and deliver quick wins to improve control room operations by 2026
  • Act as delegate for the Future Control Centre Manager when required
  • Drive continuous improvement, cultural change and customer-focused outcomes
What You'll Bring
  • Proven experience in control centre operations (energy or utilities sector preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of operational technology systems in real-time environments
  • Understanding of HV transmission networks, control, protection and communication systems
  • Experience in user acceptance testing, SCADA systems, and fault finding
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, IT, and project teams
  • Leadership or coordination experience, with the ability to guide small teams
  • Resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills in dynamic environments
