The Department of Health (DoH) – North West is seeking a motivated specialist medical practitioner to manage Junior Medical Officers, namely Interns and Resident Medical Officers. Collaborate with the local Post Graduate Medical Council representatives on prevocational education and training within the North West region in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Medical Council and the Medical Board of Australia. The position will support the Office of the Executive Director of Medical Services on local and State-wide responsibilities in postgraduate prevocational and vocational medical education, including delivery and oversight.
About Us
Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the DoH – North West has major sites located approximately 50 km apart. The DoH provides both acute and sub-acute inpatient and outpatient medical services.
This position will be attractive to highly skilled and motivated medical professionals who view challenges as opportunities and are driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing healthcare at both patient and system levels.
The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and assistance with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.
Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioners
Level 1 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3: $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro-rata + 12% superannuation.
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range ($300,216 - $310,389) is subject to satisfying the criteria for Level 1, 2, or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.
In addition, allowances and benefits, calculated on the salaried incremental point, may be available:
- Salary packaging options including benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment annually
- Motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro-rata
- Allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
- North West Retention Allowance 20%
- Generous relocation assistance
- A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support
- Fitness Passport – access to 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:
- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) on the specialist pathway; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an IMG with a recognized overseas specialist qualification and sufficient experience in the specialty.
Registration/licenses that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times during employment. It is the employee's responsibility to ensure these remain current and to inform the employer of any changes, including revocation, cancellation, or condition alterations.
