About the Role

Hawthorne Civil is seeking a Project Engineer who will play a critical role in supporting project delivery and project success across multiple civil infrastructure sites throughout southeast Queensland.

This unique position will suit a hands-on engineer who enjoys being on-site, staying close to the work, and building strong relationships with client-side teams. In this role you'll be integral to ensuring our project teams are coordinated, supported, and aligned with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support site labour across several Gold Coast-based client projects, ensuring crews are set up to succeed.
  • Work closely with client-side supervisors and superintendents, maintaining open communication and strong working relationships.
  • Act as an on-site engineer presence for Hawthorne Civil—proactively identifying site needs and facilitating timely solutions.
  • Monitor quality, safety, and performance of our workforce to ensure alignment with project requirements and client standards.
  • Assist the project delivery team with day-to-day engineering tasks including RFI preparation, technical queries, document control, and procurement support.
  • Contribute to tender preparation and project planning activities, offering insights from site experience.
  • Support onboarding, mobilisation, and mentoring of field personnel.
  • Actively represent Hawthorne Civil's values and commitment to reliability, quality, and client satisfaction.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years' experience as a Project Engineer or Site Engineer in civil construction.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—you know how to build rapport on-site and represent the business professionally.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach and willingness to work across a variety of tasks.
  • A strong understanding of civil site operations and workforce dynamics.
  • Comfortable working across multiple project environments and travelling to sites.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
