Overview

Manager, Financial Accounting at Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development — temporary AO8 role based in Brisbane. Lead a dedicated finance team delivering high-quality accounting services across the department, including financial reporting, asset management and compliance, and provide expert advice to resolve complex accounting issues. This role combines technical accounting expertise with leadership influence to support government objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the department\u2019s financial reporting, asset management and transactional finance services to ensure accurate statements and on-time delivery in line with legislative and compliance requirements.
  • Review financial data, prepare guidance on complex accounting issues, and liaise with auditors.
  • Directly manage and mentor three staff members to deliver high-quality financial services and continuously improve systems and processes.
  • Provide accessible, accurate, and tailored financial advice and support to clients and stakeholders across the department.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, program managers, and external partners to manage financial risks and inform critical decisions.
  • Develop and implement strategic solutions to complex accounting challenges to drive efficiency and transparency.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Proven experience in financial accounting and asset management.
  • Clear understanding of reporting obligations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues under pressure and communicate financial matters to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
