Job Description

In collaboration with Settlement Services International and with support from the Department of Education, Charter Australia aims to deliver traineeship training tailored specifically for asylum seekers in the health services sector.

The program addresses the challenges asylum seekers face in securing sustainable and skilled employment by providing them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and employment outcomes.

A traineeship allows you to achieve nationally recognized qualifications while earning an income from day one. Successful candidates will undergo a combination of on-the-job training with an employer of their choice to attain a Certificate III in Individual Support qualification.

You will be assigned a dedicated work supervisor and a Charter Australia qualified trainer throughout your traineeship to support your success.

As an AIN, you will positively impact the lives of older people through compassionate and supportive care, including :

  • Assisting with personal care needs (showering, dressing, eating)
  • Supporting mobility and communication needs
  • Participating in care planning
  • Following therapy plans for conditions like dementia
  • Observing and reporting changes in clients' conditions
  • Assisting with rehabilitation exercises and medication delivery
  • Providing support to therapists

Work locations are across Sydney metropolitan areas. Applicants can select preferred locations via the application page.

Requirements

Eligibility for Traineeship Pilot Program - Asylum Seekers

  • Candidates must meet Smart & Skilled eligibility and other general entry requirements for enrolment to maximize employment opportunities.
  • Candidates holding a Certificate III in Individual Support and / or Certificate IV in Ageing Support are not eligible.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting small equipment and assisting with mobility.
  • Must provide evidence of an Australian police clearance prior to training.
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 (minimum 3 doses); influenza vaccination may also be required.
  • Require a Tax File Number for employment.
  • Sufficient spoken English to communicate with educators and clients.
  • Basic reading and numeracy skills (equivalent to Year 10 or Certificate III level in Australia).
  • Committed to ongoing learning and teamwork.

Earn while you learn at your own pace to complete a Certificate III in Individual Support with Charter Australia.

Mentorship and support from trainers and coordinators working closely with the SSI team throughout your journey.
