Overview

The South Island Hospitalist group, with Island Health, is looking for hospitalists to join our dynamic team in Victoria, British Columbia. Hospitalists provide a 24-hour MRP service at the Victoria General and Royal Jubilee Hospitals. The work is varied with a high degree of autonomy and strong support from specialist colleagues. Care covers patients aged , including addictions, palliative care, geriatrics, and co-management of surgical and rehabilitation patients. Island Health is affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine and hospitalists support undergraduate and resident teaching at both hospital sites.

We offer weekly CME rounds, opportunities for learning, growth, and innovation, and the option to work in hospitalist-run programs including Inpatient MAID, Hospital at Home, and the Rapid Assessment and Discharge short-stay unit. Our mentorship program helps onboard new members, and there is a six-week (non-consecutive) FP return-to-acute-care refresher program for those returning to acute care after a gap of up to two years. Relocation allowances may be available for full-time positions. Start date: as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a 24-hour MRP service at the Victoria General and Royal Jubilee Hospitals.
  • Deliver care across a broad spectrum of pathology with a high degree of autonomy, supported by specialist colleagues.
  • Care for patients aged 17–100+, including addictions, palliative care, geriatrics, and co-management of surgical and rehabilitation patients.
  • Support undergraduate and resident teaching at both hospital sites.
  • Participate in weekly CME rounds and pursue opportunities for learning, growth, and innovation.
  • Option to work in hospitalist-run programs (Inpatient MAID, Hospital at Home, Rapid Assessment and Discharge short-stay unit).
  • Engage in our mentorship program and onboarding process; participate in a six-week (non-consecutive) FP refresher program if returning to acute care within two years.
  • Relocation allowances may be available for full-time positions.
Qualifications
  • Enthusiastic, keen candidates with an interest in acute care who enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Interest in acute care and comfort working in a fast-paced environment with support from colleagues.
  • Willingness to participate in mentorship and training programs as part of onboarding and ongoing professional development.
