Hydra Search are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 3 years' experience in the building services industry to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the design and delivery of mechanical systems across a variety of projects, contributing to both concept and detailed design phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and specification of mechanical building services systems (HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, etc.)
  • Preparation of detailed design calculations, drawings, and technical reports
  • Support project delivery from concept through to construction and handover
  • Coordinate with internal teams (electrical, sustainability) and external consultants (architects, structural engineers, contractors)
  • Attend site meetings and inspections as required
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations
  • Participate in project reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering workshops
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team environment
Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a building services consultancy or related environment
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems in the built environment
  • Experience using relevant design and calculation software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, IES, Hevacomp, etc.)
  • Familiarity with UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and sustainability standards (e.g., BREEAM)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership (CIBSE, IMechE) is desirable but not essential
