The Diocese covers the Western third of Victoria, extending from the Murray River in the North to the Southern Ocean, and includes many provincial centres and rural areas with natural attractions such as the Great Ocean Road, the Grampians, and the Murray River towns.

The Role

The Safeguarding Coordinator will undertake Safeguarding policy training, reportable conduct case management, incident investigation, and regulatory reporting for the Diocese and Parishes. Working closely with senior leadership, you will conduct legislatively compliant investigations, manage documentation, and act as the Executive Officer to the Professional Standards Committee, maintaining risk registers and audit processes. Some travel to Parish locations is required.

You should have experience in Safeguarding roles, including investigations and reporting under standards such as the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards. Your stakeholder management skills will be crucial in engaging with various personnel and regulatory bodies throughout investigations.

Duties

  1. Manage adherence to Victorian and National Safeguarding Standards.
  2. Develop safeguarding policies and materials.
  3. Guide incident reporting processes.
  4. Support governance and audit projects.
  5. Travel throughout the Diocese (fleet car provided).

Skills & Experience

  1. 5+ years in a similar Safeguarding role.
  2. Experience in investigations and reporting.
  3. Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  4. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  5. Attention to detail and a positive attitude.
  6. Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, education, psychology, law, or related fields.

Essential Requirements

  1. Current Victorian Working with Children Check.
  2. Valid Victorian Driver's License and clean driving record.
  3. Clear national criminal history check.
  4. Australian work rights.
