The role :

We are seeking a Coal Technologist and Geologist to join our team in Mackay. You will perform geological, metallurgical, and chemical activities within the coal industry, including coal wash plant sampling, production, plant audits, exploration, laboratory sample processing, and plant test work under the supervision of the Manager.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Providing technical and geological governance to ensure best practices across geological, metallurgical, and chemical activities related to coal wash plant sampling, onsite laboratory tasks, production work, and borecore testing facilities.
  • Offering technical support to the broader coal group across shipping, production, and wash plant activities, including analyzing samples to determine their composition, structure, and properties.
  • Participating in Coal Handling Preparation Plant (CHPP) systematic audits and assisting with coal mine wash plant audits with sample processing.
  • Carrying out geological and metallurgical processing activities such as coal beneficiation to remove rocks, dirt, ash, sulphur, and other contaminants to produce high-quality coal.
  • Ensuring laboratory testing tasks are clearly understood to guarantee accurate results.
  • Working efficiently to meet client turnaround times.
  • Planning and scheduling test work within the guidelines set by the Business or Project Manager.
  • Undertaking laboratory analysis on production, exploration, and train samples.
  • Processing coal exploration samples, including geochemical work such as flotation and density separation, as required.

Requirements :

To succeed in this role, you should have :

  • Experience working on a mine site in an on-site laboratory environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in coal sampling, sample preparation, and testing.
  • Experience in Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) circuits sampling, audits, and processing.
  • Experience in coal exploration programs, including flotation and density separation.
  • Experience in coal training sampling, preparation, and analysis.
  • Experience with Cole Oven Testing.
  • The ability to work under pressure.
  • High motivation and proven organizational skills.
  • A professional attitude.

Safety is a priority. Ongoing drug and alcohol testing and the ability to meet site inductions are required for on-site work.
