This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively across Murrumbidgee Local Health District in our Mobile Dental Van – you will get the chance to work alongside our fabulous Dental team.

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced Oral Health Therapist to join us in this crucial role to provide a high standard of general oral health care including oral health education to patients across MLHD. You will be predominately in a mobile dental van setting, visiting schools and other external locations including hospitals and community / council facilities.

The role will also include oral health promotion and population health activities. This position may also include rostering to fixed clinics in MLHD Oral Health Facilities.

About The Team
  • There are 3 staff members employed as part of the dental van team: 1 Oral Health Therapist (OHT) – currently vacant; 1 Dental Assistant (DA); and 1 part-time Administration Officer.
  • The dental van team are part of the Wagga Cluster and their line manager is Elizabeth Fletcher.
  • Our OHT and DA are based at Wagga Hospital as this is the base location for our dental van.
  • Our Admin Officer is based at Young Hospital.
  • The OHT position requires someone with enough clinical experience and confidence to be able to work as a sole practitioner (not suitable for new graduates).
  • Our OHT and DA travel across MLHD with the dental van providing assessment and treatment to children in school-based settings and to adults in community locations.
  • The organisation and coordination for the MLHD mobile dental service is part of my portfolio as Clinical Lead OHT, Oral Health Promotion & Prevention. I work closely with the van team to organise and manage the delivery of this service.
You Will Be Responsible For
  • Deliver approved oral health promotion and preventative programs, which are consistent with NSW oral health promotion framework and goals of the district
  • Communicate with patients/carers ensuring consistent care and maximised health outcomes
  • Utilise clinical tools, equipment and applications to ensure that the care provided is of an adequate professional standard

About You

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Hold a current AHPRA with the Dental Board of Australia.
  • Understanding of and commitment to a preventative/population health approach to patient care.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively and sensitively with a wide range of individuals.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances with the Health Service and overnight stays at health service expense.
  • Willingness to take shared responsibility for safe driving of various fleet vehicles, including a 4.5 tonne Mobile Dental Van (Class C licence compatible).
  • Oral health Therapist – Level 1 with experience will be considered
