Besides the excellent work opportunities, Cairns offers a unique lifestyle suitable to a wide variety of interests. Cairns is in the heart of the tropical north and is the primary gateway to northern Australia. Cairns is an ideal base to explore the wider region with front door access to the Great Barrier Reef, rainforests and outback locations.
Duties/Abilities
Contribute to the development of a tertiary paediatric cardiology service within the Cairns Hospital and Health Service. Cairns Hospital is the only tertiary children's service outside of Townsville and provides services to the Cairns, Cape and Torres Strait Island areas.
Sub-speciality paediatric cardiology services are currently provided with nursing and indigenous healthcare worker support, in conjunction with the Queensland Children's Hospital (QCH), who provide cardiac surgical and intervention services.
The position will provide ambulatory and inpatient care to children and young people requiring sub-speciality cardiology services. Delivery of services via outreach to the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service regions and the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health service catchments will be part of this exciting role.
The role involves caring for a population including high numbers of indigenous children in remote communities with high rates of rheumatic heart disease. Additional subspecialty interests are highly desirable, including foetal echocardiography and/or imaging interests.
