Staff Specialist (Paediatric Cardiologist) - Cairns

Description

Cairns offers a unique lifestyle in the heart of the tropical north, serving as the primary gateway to northern Australia, alongside excellent work opportunities.

Duties and Abilities
  • Contribute to developing a tertiary paediatric cardiology service within Cairns HHS.
  • Cairns Hospital is the only tertiary children's service outside Townsville, providing services to Cairns, Cape, and Torres Strait Island areas.
  • Support sub-speciality paediatric cardiology services with nursing and Indigenous healthcare workers, in collaboration with Queensland Children's Hospital (QCH), which provides cardiac surgical and intervention services.
  • Provide ambulatory and inpatient care for children and young people requiring sub-speciality cardiology services.
  • Participate in outreach programs to Torres and Cape HHS and Cairns and Hinterland HHS catchments.
  • Care for a population including many Indigenous children in remote communities with high rates of rheumatic heart disease.
  • Additional subspecialty interests, such as fetal echocardiography and imaging, are highly desirable.
