We're seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead a high-volume transport operation, overseeing 40+ drivers, a diverse heavy vehicle fleet, and a team of fleet planners and support staff. This is a pivotal role where exceptional planning skills, fleet optimisation, and exemplary people leadership are key to success. This role offers a genuine opportunity to lead from the front and drive operational excellence.

This is a dynamic environment that demands strategic thinking, precise execution, and a focus on both service delivery and compliance. You'll be responsible for planning and managing all aspects of daily operations, while continuously looking for ways to optimise fleet performance, reduce costs, and improve service standards.

You'll be supported by a dedicated team but will also be expected to take full ownership of performance outcomes, including safety, efficiency, customer satisfaction and financial targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end operations of the VIC bulk transport business
  • Develop and implement effective daily and long-term planning strategies for fleet and resources
  • Ensure optimal utilisation of equipment including semi tippers, B-doubles, hooklifts, marrels, and flat decks
  • Drive performance against KPIs including DIFOT, safety, maintenance, and customer satisfaction
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with drivers, planners, internal departments and key customers
  • Monitor compliance with fatigue management, load restraint, mass management and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations
  • Manage budget performance, labour planning and cost control across the operation
  • Mentor and develop team members through structured performance management, training, and succession planning
  • Foster a safety-first, solutions-focused culture within the team
  • Collaborate with the State Manager VIC/SA to align operational strategy with broader business objectives
About You:
  • 5+ years' experience in a senior transport or logistics operations role, ideally within high-volume or bulk haulage environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and executing complex logistics schedules
  • A track record of optimising fleet performance, improving service outcomes and reducing operational costs
  • Deep knowledge of transport compliance and safety standards (fatigue, CoR, mass/load restraint)
  • Commercially astute with experience in P&L management and financial reporting
  • Strong communicator with the ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and build productive relationships at all levels
  • Proficient in TMS and operational reporting systems
  • Current driver's licence required; tertiary qualifications in logistics, transport or supply chain (desirable)
