Overview Freespace Operations is an Australian manufacturer of heavy-lift industrial unmanned aerial systems (UAS) based in Melbourne.
We specialise in the design, manufacture and support of advanced heavy-lift UAS for the global defense, enterprise, and public safety sectors.
As the company scales our operations we are seeking highly skilled individuals to join the team.
We are actively seeking a highly skilled Aerospace Engineer with demonstrated expertise in industrial electronics and automation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), control system design, and Python programming.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design, simulation, and development of next-generation heavy-lift drones, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams specialising in systems engineering, production technology, automation, and avionics development.
A minimum of one year of relevant production experience with heavy-lift multirotor Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) is a prerequisite.
Prior experience in industrial systems and automation is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities Conduct CFD analysis and aerodynamic simulations to optimize drone performance.
Design and develop advanced control systems for stability, flight dynamics, and autonomous operations.
Develop algorithms and tools utilising Python for simulation, testing, and data analysis.
Design mechanical and electronic systems using CAD software.
Integrate PLC-based systems for testing and automation within drone manufacturing.
Lead efforts in advanced manufacturing, including rapid prototyping of components and structures for UAV systems.
Contribute to the optimisation of manufacturing assembly systems.
Collaborate with R&D and production teams to translate designs into manufacturable solutions.
Contribute to the design and integration of high tech drone payloads.
Qualifications & Skills Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated expertise in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
Experience in Control System Design for aerospace or robotics applications.
Proficiency in Python programming for engineering simulations.
Experience with PLC programming and integration.
Experience in the optimisation of manufacturing assembly systems.
Experience in the design and integration of high tech drone payloads.
Experience in advanced manufacturing, including rapid prototyping of components and structures for heavy-lift UAV systems.
Excellent problem solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Experience with UAV or heavy-lift drone systems is considered advantageous.
