Overview

Boral is seeking an experienced Drill & Blast Manager to lead and improve outcomes across our NSW Quarry business. This critical role ensures drill and blast activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory requirements, NSW regulations, and Boral's own risk control processes. Working with both internal teams and external contractors, you will drive operational excellence and support a $450M p.a. revenue business, aligned with Boral's Way – People, Environment, Markets, Assets and Finance.

Responsibilities

Your day will involve:

  • Planning, coordinating and overseeing drill and blast activities across multiple NSW quarry sites.
  • Location: flexible, with preference for Southern Highlands, Sydney, Illawarra, or Mid-North Coast.
  • Reporting directly to the General Manager, NSW Quarries.
  • Leading a small team of three direct reports while building strong contractor and stakeholder relationships.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant NSW regulatory frameworks, blasting licences and statutory requirements.
  • Managing contracts, tenders, and negotiations for drill and blast services.
  • Supporting both Operations Managers and NSW Quarry Managers with strategies to optimise performance and meet business goals.
  • Monitoring industry activity, competitor trends and emerging technologies to keep Boral ahead of the market.
  • Promoting a Zero Harm culture through safe systems of work, environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Providing accurate reporting on blast performance, cost efficiencies, and operational outcomes.
Qualifications
  • NSW Drill & Blast Shotfirer Licence (essential).
  • Relevant qualifications in mining, extractive industries, or explosives management.
  • Proven experience in drill and blast management within quarries, mining or civil operations.
  • Strong understanding of NSW legislation, safety standards, and environmental requirements relating to blasting.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing teams and the ability to influence, negotiate, and drive performance.
  • High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proactive, safety-focused approach with a passion for operational excellence.
