We're seeking a skilled and driven Road Occupation Project Engineer to join a Tier 1 contractor delivering critical works as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project in Melbourne's western suburbs. This 3-month contract offers an exciting opportunity to work on a high-profile infrastructure upgrade that's reshaping the way Melburnians travel.

You'll be working on the planning and execution of road occupations, ensuring smooth traffic staging, compliance, and safety during major construction phases.

The Role

As the Road Occupation Project Engineer, your focus will be on the coordination and delivery of temporary traffic arrangements and road closures to support ongoing rail and civil construction works.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage planning and approvals for road occupations and traffic diversions.

Coordinate with VicRoads, LXRP, local councils, and utility providers to secure permits.

Oversee the implementation of Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) during live traffic conditions.

Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and road occupation standards.

Provide on-site engineering support during road closures and staged construction activities.

Monitor traffic conditions and adjust operations where needed to maintain flow and safety.

Work closely with construction and delivery teams to align occupation activities with key milestones.

About You

Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

Experience in road occupation planning, traffic staging, or temporary traffic arrangements—ideally on rail or major infrastructure projects.

Solid knowledge of Victorian traffic management regulations and permitting processes.

Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to operate in fast-paced environments with a safety-first mindset.

White Card essential; RIW Card and VicRoads traffic accreditation highly regarded.

Duration: 3-month contract

Start: ASAP

Location: Western Suburbs, Melbourne

Schedule: Monday to Friday with occasional weekend/night shifts as required

Rate: Competitive daily rate based on experience
