The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.

The Quality and Innovation Unit provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, programs, models and policies for improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Well-being.

The Public Health Team sits within the Quality and Innovation Unit, improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in SEQ through community-driven best practice public health.

About the Role?

The Health Promotion Officer is responsible for working across the IUIH Network, to develop and deliver community-based health education, promotion and prevention activities.

Day to Day Duties Include:

  • Work collaboratively with the Public Health team to support public health priorities
  • Connect and engage with Mob, sharing key health information and encouraging healthy choices as a part of our people living healthy and deadly lives.
  • Work collaboratively to identify existing health promotion materials to use in programs
  • Distribute health information/program materials and support community members to participate in public health activities, e.g. cancer screening
  • Build and maintain relationships with health services, community organisations and community members
  • Work with health services and community organisations to host health promotion days
  • Promote Community Controlled Health Services and engage community members in health promoting screening initiatives, immunisations or 715 health checks, or other health programs and clinical advice as appropriate

About You?

To perform this role it is essential that the incumbent is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander male. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Criminal History Check
  • Valid Blue Card
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Qualification in Health Promotion, Public Health or other relevant qualification
