Our APAC Hydrology and Hydrogeology Team: Our 50+ person Hydrogeology and Hydrology (H&H) Technical Discipline is one of the largest in SLR Australia and is core business. This role is for a lead for our national Groundwater Modelling team, a virtual team of 11 people across Brisbane, Melbourne and Wollongong offices delivering and growing our Groundwater Modelling Practice. As a virtual team this role can be based at any of SLR's offices. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with state-based groundwater and surface water team leaders to deliver solutions for clients. The candidate will work directly with the Technical Discipline Manager (TDM) and Hydrogeology Technical Directors to implement our business plan aligned with global priorities – expanding the core, investing in the emerging, and experimenting and validating the future.

We work in a collaborative environment across our H&H teams in Brisbane, Townsville, Newcastle, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and closely with other SLR Environmental Specialists. The group delivers projects across SLR's market sectors including Mining & Minerals, Built Environment, Infrastructure, Industry and Power. Our 2025 project focus includes: resource projects for a variety of commodities, expansion of our infrastructure and energy (renewables) portfolio, and leveraging SLR's Global Centre of Excellence to increase overseas work.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the national Groundwater Modelling team (a virtual team of ~11) across Brisbane, Melbourne and Wollongong to deliver and grow the Groundwater Modelling Practice.
  • Collaborate with state-based groundwater and surface water team leaders to deliver client solutions.
  • Work with the Technical Discipline Manager (TDM) and Hydrogeology Technical Directors to implement the business plan aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Engage in technical project work and contribute to winning work by leveraging client relationships and business development acumen.
  • Mentor junior staff, overseeing quality of reports, and ensuring timely delivery within budgets.
  • Support collaboration with related technical staff to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Represent and promote best practices and standards in groundwater modelling within the practice and for clients.

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Need
  • 7–20+ years' industry experience as a hydrogeologist, including consultancy experience.
  • Engineering or Science tertiary qualification.
  • Strong technical background in numerical modelling, hydrogeological conceptualisation, groundwater impact assessment and hydrogeological investigation.
  • Thorough understanding of Australian groundwater legislation and guidelines relevant to resource development and infrastructure; working knowledge of state legislation, policies, standards and guidelines is highly regarded.
  • Strong commitment to Health and Safety.
  • Experience managing and delivering large technical projects, particularly complex groundwater modelling projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, self-motivation, and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Excellent communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff in preparing quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Experience collaborating with related technical staff to deliver project solutions.
  • Capability to contribute to winning work by identifying opportunities and leveraging client relationships.
  • Strong track record in building, nurturing and maintaining ongoing client relationships.
  • Experience or understanding of the broader water market (surface water resources would be highly regarded).
  • Australian citizenship or rights to work in Australia.
