An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Payroll Officer to join a welcoming and supportive team based in the heart of Sydney CBD. This role offers you the chance to work within a flexible hybrid environment.

Responsibilities
  • Process four small pay runs accurately and efficiently each cycle, ensuring all employees are paid correctly and on time.
  • Manage payroll data entry using the Astute system, maintaining up-to-date records and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Interpret and apply various awards to ensure correct payment calculations for staff across different roles and departments.
  • Handle different overtime rates with care, making sure all additional hours worked are compensated appropriately according to company policies and award requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in finance and human resources to resolve any payroll discrepancies or queries promptly and professionally.
  • Support employees by responding to payroll-related questions with empathy and clarity, fostering trust and understanding within the team.
  • Assist in preparing payroll reports as required by management, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Contribute to process improvements by sharing feedback on payroll procedures and suggesting ways to enhance efficiency or accuracy.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all employee information in line with privacy regulations and organisational standards.
What you bring
  • A keen eye for detail that ensures accuracy when processing payroll data across multiple pay runs each cycle.
  • Experience or willingness to learn how to use payroll software such as Astute; no prior experience required as training will be provided.
  • Understanding of different awards and their application within payroll processes, ensuring compliance with relevant employment legislation.
  • Ability to interpret varying overtime rates and apply them correctly during payroll calculations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to communicate clearly with colleagues across departments as well as respond empathetically to employee queries.
  • Strong organisational abilities that help you manage competing priorities while meeting tight deadlines consistently.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information in line with privacy standards.
  • A collaborative approach that fosters positive relationships within the wider finance and HR teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel for basic reporting purposes is desirable but not essential.
