Overview

Controls & Automation Specialist role at Ocado Group focuses on front-line support for the continuous operation of site material handling equipment (MHE). Work may range from electrical wiring faults, communications issues, and database/reporting needs to detailed analysis of various programmable logic controller software. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives and carries out planned and reactive maintenance on MHE, including bots, tote and product handling equipment and associated conveyor networks. The role is shift-based and reports to the Engineering Team Manager. A dotted line to the Lead Automation Engineer provides technical direction as required. The role requires working days, nights and weekends and flexibility to support Ocado's 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out planned maintenance across the site in an accurate, timely and safe manner ensuring maintenance procedures are followed
  • Remotely supporting partner sites using phone and other company communications tools
  • Update records of work activities, tasks carried out, parts used through stores and training given
  • Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers and internal departments in finding ways to improve process and increase machine reliability and performance
  • Respond to and diagnose equipment breakdowns, resolving issues and action repairs
  • Analyse data to find solutions to improve MHE performance, providing reports where necessary
  • Complete quality inspections to ensure work is completed to a safe standard
  • Work to and follow Health and Safety policies including those set by Ocado, Coles and Australian regulatory standards
  • To seek guidance from the HS&E team where there is uncertainty

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrated technical ability in relation to Automation and controls hardware, software and communications.
  • Formal tertiary qualifications in a related field will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrable analytical skills with sound problem solving ability
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to impart knowledge effectively to others
  • Good organisation skills, able to prioritise
  • A self-starter who is comfortable with setting goals and reporting to all levels of management
  • This is a hands-on role and involves working at heights, using a variety of access equipment, so employees need to be comfortable working at heights
