Production Supervisor Position: Join a Leading Heavy Industry Manufacturer in North Melbourne

The Company:

Our client is a well-established Australian designer and manufacturer specialising in custom-engineered equipment for a diverse range of industrial sectors, including transportation, infrastructure, and resources. With a history spanning several decades, they provide bespoke solutions to clients both domestically and internationally.

The Position:

As a Production Supervisor, you'll be a pivotal leader in our manufacturing operations, overseeing the entire production lifecycle from material inbound to product outbound. Reporting to the Engineering Director, this multifaceted role demands strong leadership, meticulous planning, and excellent organisational skills. You'll be responsible for:

  • People Management: Leading, mentoring, and managing a team of trades personnel, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. This includes managing daily tasks, addressing performance, and supporting skill development.
  • Planning & Scheduling: You'll manage Work-In-Progress (WIP) routing, develop workshop loadings, and create robust production schedules. This also involves providing daily schedule updates and communicating progress to stakeholders.
  • Inwards & Outwards Logistics: Overseeing the efficient receipt, labelling, and organisation of raw materials and components, ensuring optimal factory space utilisation and smooth material flow. You'll also be responsible for ensuring finished goods are prepared for dispatch.
  • Purchasing & Procurement: Managing procurement activities, including generating materials lists and placing orders to ensure timely availability of necessary components and raw materials. You'll also ensure data accuracy for accounts related to procurement.
  • Operational Oversight: Tracking material movements, collaborating closely with sales, engineering, and your team to provide feedback on capacity and progress. You'll lead production meetings, actively participate in job-related problem-solving alongside trades personnel, and ensure adherence to established quality frameworks.
  • Quality & Compliance: Operating within our quality framework, ensuring accurate dissemination of engineering information, participating in audits, and maintaining precise manufacturing records.

About You:

You're an experienced and hands-on leader with a proven track record in heavy industry manufacturing environments. You possess exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritise effectively based on operational requirements. As a successful candidate seeking a long-term role, you will also possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Proven experience in a production supervision or similar leadership role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of people management principles and the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Proficiency in planning and scheduling software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (Raw material, commercial items, turning, milling, welding, painting). MUST HAVE
  • Demonstrated experience in inventory management, inwards/outwards logistics, and procurement.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with all stakeholders, from trades personnel to senior management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience is highly desirable.
