About the opportunity

Are you interested in working in a state-of-the-art facility with one of the largest public Anatomical Pathology laboratories? The Department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at RPA is seeking a Cytologist.

As the statewide diagnostic service for bone and soft tissue sarcomas, pelvic exenteration, complex head and neck resections, liver and kidney transplants, and diagnostic molecular pathology, you will be exposed to a diverse range of specialty pathology. The successful applicant will join a team of scientists and technicians, working alongside administrative and medical staff, to ensure high-quality pathology results for patients and clinicians.

Located at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Campus in Camperdown, Sydney, our laboratory is easily accessible via three train stations and multiple bus stops. Staff enjoy proximity to cafes and entertainment facilities.

What you'll be doing

Delivering operational laboratory activities, coordinating scientific and technical training, and reviewing laboratory practices to ensure compliance with standards and continuous improvement.

Application process

  1. Bachelor Degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent, with relevant pathology subjects
  2. Knowledge and experience in pathology services, Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems, Quality Control Systems, and computer programs like Microsoft Office
  3. Customer-focused with strong interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills
  4. Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
  5. Team player with the ability to work autonomously and contribute to diagnostic skills
  6. Initiative, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  7. Understanding of legislation, policies, and safety requirements
  8. CT(ASC) qualification with knowledge to screen and report cytology preparations

This is a Category A position requiring compliance with NSW Health Policy Directive PD2024_015 on occupational assessment, screening, and vaccination.
