Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides Pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania. NTPS aims to deliver a high-quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, providing patients with no out of pocket expenses for Medicare eligible tests. The team at NTPS comprises a large team involving multi-disciplinary scientists, technicians, non-technical staff and Pathologists
The Role:
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the Operational and Scientific aspects of Anatomical Pathology department at NTPS. The successful applicant will work closely with the Laboratory manager, NTPS and with HOD, Anatomical Pathology in realising the departmental objectives.
The Scientist in charge is also expected to provide expert scientific advice to clinical staff at LGH in matters pertaining to Anatomical Pathology.
You will need:
- Good understanding of Anatomical pathology workflows, with proficiency in Histology and/or Cytology
- Prior experience in managing teams will be considered an advantage
- Post graduate qualification will be considered advantageous

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you would like to join our team.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $123,717 to $134,336 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
Salary Packaging:
You'll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
- Please note that access to salaries beyond $130,900 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
Satisfactory completion of an appropriate course of study at a recognised tertiary institution
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Five years' experience in Routine Histology or equivalent
- Cytology experience and CT (ASC)
