Payroll Officer, Shared Services – Australia

This hands-on role is critical to ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a diverse workforce across multiple business units.
This role can be based in Sydney or Brisbane.
What You'll Do Process end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly basis using Chris21 (i Chris).
Maintain employee records, contracts, timesheets, and leave data.
Interpret awards and enterprise agreements to ensure correct pay rates and entitlements.
Perform payroll reconciliations and support month-end reporting.
Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including PAYG, superannuation, and STP.
Liaise with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate data flow and reporting.
Prepare and submit payroll-related reports including workers' compensation and ad hoc requests.
Respond to employee payroll queries professionally and promptly.
Assist with audits, process reviews, and payroll improvement initiatives.
What You'll Bring 1–3 years' payroll experience in a multi-business unit environment.
Experience using Chris21 / i Chris and Oracle ERP (or similar).
Sound knowledge of Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation.
Strong understanding of awards and enterprise agreement interpretation.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems.
Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Legally entitled to work in Australia.
Relevant payroll certificate or tertiary qualification (desirable).
