Payroll officer, Shared Services – Australia & APAC

Tetra Tech Asia Pacific is seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused Payroll Officer to support payroll operations across our Australian and New Zealand entities. This hands-on role is critical to ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a diverse workforce across multiple business units.

This role can be based in Sydney or Brisbane.

What You'll Do
  • Process end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly basis using Chris21 (iChris).
  • Maintain employee records, contracts, timesheets, and leave data.
  • Interpret awards and enterprise agreements to ensure correct pay rates and entitlements.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and support month-end reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including PAYG, superannuation, and STP.
  • Liaise with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate data flow and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit payroll-related reports including workers' compensation and ad hoc requests.
  • Respond to employee payroll queries professionally and promptly.
  • Assist with audits, process reviews, and payroll improvement initiatives.
What You'll Bring
  • 1–3 years' payroll experience in a multi-business unit environment.
  • Experience using Chris21 / iChris and Oracle ERP (or similar).
  • Sound knowledge of Australian and New Zealand payroll legislation.
  • Strong understanding of awards and enterprise agreement interpretation.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Legally entitled to work in Australia.
  • Relevant payroll certificate or tertiary qualification (desirable).
