National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health
The National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health, established at UNSW Medicine and Health, UNSW Sydney, is a significant national initiative dedicated to improving the health of people with intellectual disability.
The Centre plays a pivotal role in advancing healthcare by bringing together leading experts, resources, and research to inform best practice, drive innovation, and support equitable access to quality health services.
Why this role matters:
The Research Officer will play a key role in supporting NCEIDH's multidisciplinary research in palliative health care for people with intellectual disability, in collaboration with the South-Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).
Reporting to the Senior Research Fellow, the role provides research and technical assistance across all stages of the project, including study design, data management and analysis, stakeholder engagement, and preparation of reports, publications, and ethics applications.
The Research Officer will also contribute to inclusive research practices, supporting the meaningful involvement of people with intellectual disability, and ensuring high standards of research integrity and collaboration throughout the project.
Skills Required:
A university degree in health, medicine, or a related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training or experience.
Experience with and/or knowledge of the principles of codesign and/or inclusive research.
Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones.
Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Nvivo, SPSS, Microsoft Office Suite, and End Note.
Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
