Children's Cancer Institute is proud to be part of an ambitious new chapter in paediatric oncology. In partnership with the Kids Cancer Centre, we are building a transformative future within the Minderoo Children's Comprehensive Cancer Centre, due for completion by the end of 2025. This will be a world-leading hub of research, care, and education, dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancer.

As we move toward this exciting milestone, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Research Officer to join our Chemical Biology and Target-Based Drug Design (CBDD) team.

About the Role

As a Research Officer, you will work at the cutting edge of chemical biology, chemo proteomics, computational chemistry, and preclinical disease models. Your mission: to help identify and validate new druggable targets and contribute to fragment-based drug discovery campaigns in paediatric high-grade gliomas.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conducting research as a member of a team and supervised by the team leader

  2. Achieving an outstanding level of competence in all aspects of experimental work

  3. Assisting with planning and coordination of research efforts

  4. Producing or contributing to high quality publications

  5. Writing grant applications and obtaining research funding

  6. Presenting research data at conferences and seminars

  7. Training supervising and guiding students on a day-to-day basis

  8. Getting involved in professional activities

  9. Complying with regulatory guidelines (including OGTR and ethics) and institute policies

  10. Duty to design research experiments, conduct research, create intellectual property and invent

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD in related discipline

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Background in drug screening assays and target validation

  • Familiarity with OGTR and research compliance processes

  • Proven ability to independently plan and conduct experiments

  • Keen interest in new techniques and emerging technologies

  • Strong computer literacy and data analysis skills

  • High professionalism, collaboration skills, and respect for colleagues
