Description The Hydrogen Business Developer plays a pivotal role in the development of renewable hydrogen and derivative projects—including green ammonia, green methanol, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC)—from early-stage concept through to Final Investment Decision (FID).
This role is central to delivering the global hydrogen strategy within the Australian context.
The role requires an engineering background and a strong knowledge of renewable hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives, commercial drivers, and project delivery within the Australian context.
It involves close collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop technically and commercially viable projects.
Market and Policy Analysis Conduct market studies to assess demand, pricing trends, and competitive positioning for hydrogen and its derivatives.
Identify short-term domestic opportunities for hard-to-abate sectors decarbonisation, as well as medium- to long-term opportunities for export and emerging uses of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives.
Analyse subsidy and incentive schemes to improve project bankability and secure public funding.
Maintain active engagement with key stakeholders involved in Australian and international hydrogen policy development.
Commercial Structuring and Customer Engagement Design strategies and actions to attract new customers.
Generate leads of local and global offtakers for renewable hydrogen.
Manage relationships with offtakers to develop renewable hydrogen projects.
Perform modelling and cost analysis of hydrogen projects.
Negotiate hydrogen purchase agreements (HPAs), joint development agreements, and strategic partnerships.
Develop tailored value propositions for industrial customers.
Support the preparation of investment documentation and board-level decision materials.
Project Development and Management Coordination Conduct preliminary technical and commercial assessments to determine project viability.
Lead project development from concept through feasibility, pre-FEED, FEED, and FID phases.
Coordinate with internal teams including Engineering, Project Delivery, Energy Markets, Procurement, Legal, Finance, and Networks to ensure project alignment and readiness.
Establish and manage key legal agreements to support project progression.
Develop project timelines, risk registers, and business cases.
Lead the preparation and submission of funding applications to international, federal, and state programs.
Coordinate permitting processes, ensuring timely approvals and compliance with environmental and planning regulations.
Stakeholder Engagement Engage with key government departments at international, federal, state, and local levels related to hydrogen.
Engage with local community stakeholders.
Engage with players across the entire hydrogen value chain.
Represent the company in public-private initiatives, industry forums, and community sessions.
Engineering and Technical Coordination Oversee conceptual and preliminary engineering design of renewable hydrogen and derivatives plants.
Build and refine techno-economic models to assess project feasibility.
Manage external consultants and engineering firms during pre-FEED and FEED phases.
Lead relationships with electrolyser and main equipment OEMs.
Maintain awareness of evolving hydrogen technologies and standards.
Evaluate technology options and perform technical risk assessments.
Required Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.3+ years of experience in the hydrogen sector or related fields.
