The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people, and their families, adults, older people, and their carers.
Our services include health promotion, prevention, early detection, assessment, treatment, and continuing care.
Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non-government agencies, and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people's homes, community venues, and via virtual care (telehealth).
An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Sexual Assault Counsellor on a permanent part-time basis, working 32 hours per week.
The role of Sexual Assault Counsellor involves providing specialist therapeutic and case management services to adults and children under 10 years with problematic and sexually harmful behaviours, and their non-offending family members.
Responsibilities include crisis and ongoing counselling, assessment, advocacy, case work, training facilitation, and community development.
The successful candidate will join a supportive tertiary trauma counselling service with ongoing professional development, clinical supervision, peer support, and cultural supervision.
This is a female-identified role and includes participation in a 24/7 crisis counselling roster.
The role can be negotiated to work primarily from Lemongrove (Penrith) or Lithgow.
The Sexual Assault Service aligns with PARVAN, supporting policies for victims of violence, abuse, or neglect.

What you will bring to the role: Tertiary qualifications and professional registration/membership, plus significant clinical experience with children, young people, and adults.
Social Worker – Bachelor's degree, eligibility for AASW membership, and extensive knowledge or broad generalist experience.
Psychologist – four-year degree or equivalent, with registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
Being female is a genuine occupational qualification as per Section 31(2h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Extensive experience in applying best practice models for trauma-affected clients, including understanding sexual assault and harmful sexual behaviours in children under 10.
Specialist assessment, case management, and counselling skills for trauma-affected clients, with the ability to make independent professional judgments.
Understanding of policies, frameworks, and legislation regarding child protection, sexual assault, and harmful sexual behaviours.
Knowledge of the intersection of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child protection, with skills in assessments and care planning.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clinical notes, reports, and community education presentations, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
Experience and commitment to working with diverse populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, CALD communities, and socioeconomically diverse groups.
Current Driver's Licence and willingness to travel for work.
Participation in a 24/7 crisis on-call service, with attendance at Nepean Hospital within one hour.
Employment of temporary visa holders may only occur if no suitable Australian resident or citizen is available and must comply with visa conditions.
