Role Overview This is a highly technical, senior-level role leading protection system design for HV substations and Terminal stations.
You'll drive protection and control engineering tasks across brownfield and greenfield substation projects - including network projects, hyper-scale data centre, and renewable connections - ensuring configuration files, settings, schematics, and fault analysis are executed at the highest quality.This role is not a general project engineer role .
It is pure protection and control - ideal for someone with deep technical acumen and the ability to work autonomously across the entire lifecycle of protection system design engineering and implementation.Key Responsibilities Lead Technical Delivery of protection system design tasks Perform power system fault modelling , setting calculations, and QA review Provide technical assurance , particularly for fault-level modelling and relay schemes Interface with site teams remotely (phone/Teams), where required Manage and review internal relay/drawing databases (training provided) Required Skills & Experience Proven experience in Electrical utilities HV substation protection and control design (brownfield and greenfield) Familiarity with relay configuration platforms (Schweitzer, GE, Siemens, etc.) Competency with fault modelling software (e.g., PSSE or equivalent) Strong knowledge of Victorian regulatory standards and compliance frameworks Experience in zonal substations and terminal stations (not building services or Manufactuing machinery) Capable of quality assurance and team mentoring NER registration and sign-off capability mandatory Australian-recognised engineering qualification essential Ideal Candidate Profile 8-15+ years' experience in protection and control (substation-focused) Has led or guided other engineers technically (even in a flat structure) Strong analytical thinker with attention to technical detail Confident communicator (written + verbal) and process-oriented Melbourne-based, 3 days in CBD office Mark WatersSenior Recruitment Consultant Manpower Group is committed to being a Diversity Confident Recruiter and encourages applications from people from a diverse range of backgrounds, including people with a disability.
