About Us

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) serves as the primary organisation representing the psychiatry medical specialty in Australia and New Zealand. Our mission focuses on training, educating, and advocating for psychiatrists in both countries, with a vision for excellence and equity in the provision of mental health care.

The role

The primary focus of this position is to lead the Bi-national Policy Team, consisting of six direct reports. The role involves offering expert guidance and support in creating bi-national College policies, submissions, briefings, position statements, and professional practice guidelines related to psychiatry and mental health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development of College policy in consultation with Committees, Faculties, Sections and Networks, Branches, New Zealand Office and College departments.
  • Coordinate contributions to external policy consultation processes and inquiries, including preparing commentaries, responses and submissions to government and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the roll-out of position statements, professional practice guidelines and other policy documents.
  • Collaborate with relevant Media teams to develop effective communications on key College policy positions.
  • Lead the development of the College's consultation and listening processes for the development of policy to include lived experience which is culturally safe and inclusive for our members.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in an appropriate Policy, Health, Legal, Social Science, Business or Research discipline is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking policy development and analysis with specific expertise in the Australian and New Zealand health care system, in particular the mental health sector and government legislation, structures, and processes.
  • Proven experience in operationalising strategic plans, priority setting, exercising judgement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Eligibility Requirement: Applicants must be either an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen.
