Richmond, Australia REA Group Full time
  • 12 month fixed term contract role
  • Sustainability - We are certified carbon neutral and committed to reducing our impact on the environment.
  • Charities – We have long-term partnerships with charities working to address homelessness.

We're REA

REA Group is not your average digital business. From humble beginnings in a garage in Melbourne's east in 1995, we have grown into a leading global digital business, specialising in property.

With bold and ambitious goals, we are changing the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help with every step - whether that's finding or financing your next home.

Our people are the key to our success. At the heart of everything we do, is a thriving culture centred around high performance and care. We are purpose driven and collaborative, which drives innovation and our ability to make a real impact. As such, we're proud to be named in Australia's "Top 5" Best Workplaces two years in a row, as well as being recognised as a Best Workplace for Women.

Where the team fits in

This is a 12-month fixed term contract joining REA Group's Ignite team. Ignite is our strategic customer platform going forward and is five years old. The platform is positioned to be the tool of choice for all customers that utilize REA to support their business.

Within the Ignite Tribe we operate under a federated model supporting all our lines of business (LOB) to enable and deliver upon our key customer strategy. Ignite is available to our customers across both web and app which is underpinned by a backend that integrates with many core systems across our business. Given the cross LOB nature of our delivery we get to work, learn, share challenges and celebrate success alongside many people and teams across all parts of the organisation.

Ignite has reached maturity as a platform, but we still operate with a start-up mindset, testing, learning and gather feedback to guide our direction. Ignite is at an important stage in its evolution. We are in the process of improving the way our federating teams use our platform by reimagining the existing architecture. Applying for this role is both an exciting opportunity to grow and help evolve Ignite both architecturally and as a team

What the role is all about

  • Working closely with 6 other developers, a BA, a QA, a Delivery Lead, a Designer and a Product Manager to deliver great outcomes for Ignite, its customers and the wider REA.
  • Designing, implementing, testing and deploying new software products using a variety of technologies and platforms. You'll be working across the full stack, it tends to be a nice blend across UI, backend and API development.
  • Supporting our federating teams by providing guidance, technical expertise and options to solve technical problems, whilst ensuring our federating teams maintain our high quality standards.
  • Working in a wider agile team with other developers, business analysts, quality analysts, product managers & product designers where we value iterative experimentation and data driven decisions.
  • Learning and contributing to the tech community. We are constantly learning together, mentoring each other and striving to do things better.
  • Work with product to understand business priorities and communicate technical options, report on progress and express ideas.

Who we're looking for

  • Someone who is wanting to be part of a high performing, highly collaborative team who likes to work with others to deliver great outcomes and have some fun along the way,.
  • Someone with sound knowledge of the web technologies and software development environments
  • Someone with experience developing products that scale and are highly performant
  • Skills in ReactJS, GraphQL and NodeJS development
  • Skills in modern software development techniques such as object orientation (functional programming a bonus), test driven development, continuous integration, and iterative releasing
  • Someone who has the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with other developers, product managers, designers, business analysts, etc.
  • Good communication skills and experience collaborating with other team members.
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or similar highly desirable.
  • Looks at tricky situations through a solutions-focused lense.
  • Someone who likes to work in a fast paced and agile environment.

The REA experience

The physical, mental, emotional and financial health of our people is something we'll never stop caring about. This is a place to learn and grow. We're committed to your development – both professionally and personally. Your experience with us is something we take seriously.

We offer:

  • A hybrid and flexible approach to working
  • Flexible parental leave offering for primary and secondary carers
  • Programs to support mental, emotional, financial and physical health & wellbeing
  • Our Because We Care program offers employees volunteering leave, community grants, matched payroll giving and our Community Café donates 100% of revenue to charity.
  • Hack Days so you can bring your big ideas to life
  • Performance recognition programs because hard work should never go unnoticed

Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We are committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity, equity and inclusion. We believe teams with diverse ideas and experiences are more creative, more effective and fuel disruptive thinking - be it cultural and ethnic backgrounds, gender identity, disability, age, sexual orientation, or any other identity or lived experience. We know diverse teams are critical to maintaining our success and driving new business opportunities. If you've got the skills, dedication and enthusiasm to learn but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch.
