WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

About the Team

The Supplier Quality Engineers work alongside Supplier Development Engineers and the team reports through to our Supplier Quality Engineer Manager. At RDA, our Supplier Quality Engineers work closely with the greater Quality team, as well as Procurement, Production and Engineering, as well as being front facing to our suppliers. This role will be based full time at our Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Redbank.

About the Role

We have multiple Supplier Quality Engineer positions available and will be considering applicants from a mechanical or electrical background.

The Supplier Quality Engineer role is responsible for optimizing the quality planning process, specifically in relation to project-related parts, services and suppliers. This role works closely with Rheinmetall's suppliers to ensure their performance is monitored, reported, analysed and documented, with improvement priorities being effectively identified and implemented across the supplier base.

The role plans and conducts supplier audits and assessments and fosters the application of effective process planning and verification techniques within the supplier base to achieve consistent supply outcomes.

As the Supplier Quality Engineer, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:

  • Support of specialist purchasing in the selection, evaluation and approval of new suppliers;
  • Supplier support and participation in supplier selection in cross-functional teams, conducting supplier audits at national and international level;
  • Planning and delivery of supplier audits and assessments with the management teams of suppliers, to provide an indication to Rheinmetall of the overall level of risk in the delivery of parts, assemblies and services from each supplier;
  • Coordination of the various Rheinmetall Entity requirements for the engagement in, requirements for, and communication of Supplier Audits and Assessments;
  • Tracking the execution of improvement measures resulting from audit deviations at suppliers;
  • Supplier performance monitoring and reporting using relevant statistical methods and tools;
  • Identification, initiation and follow-up of quality improvement measures at suppliers;
  • Cross-project coordination, planning and evaluation of initial sampling of procured products and services through the conduct of Product Audits and First Article Inspections (FAI) at suppliers;
  • Conducting and managing the risk based performance of FAI activities to assess the level of compliance and assured compliance of procured parts and assemblies. Both for new and changed parts and assemblies;
  • Processing and review of Supplier compliance and assurance for the approval of suppliers through the RDA Supplier On-boarding process; and
  • To ensure non-conformances related to supplier products or services are documented, acted upon and fully resolved, Drive the implementation of cross-functional team problem solving disciplines and initiate necessary actions to prevent recurrence of supplier quality issues.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Manufacturing discipline, providing a solid technical background;
  • Proven experience working in a similar role and engaging with external suppliers;
  • Industry experience in heavy vehicle, defence, automotive is highly desirable;
  • Extensive Quality management, planning and auditing experience;
  • Experienced in deploying Quality tools and techniques;
  • Certified Lead Auditor;
  • Experienced in Project Management methodologies from conception to completion;
  • Experience in Requirements management;
  • Completed VDA 6.3 Process Auditor training;
  • Extensive experience conducting Audits and managing improvement programs
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to travel extensively interstate and international when required; and
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (must hold Australian Citizenship).
