Your role


We are currently searching for a Critical Risk and Process Safety System Manager to join our Safety, Health and Environment (SH&E) leadership team, reporting to our Chief Officer Safety, Health and Environment.

This is a crucial role within our business and one that will shape and influence critical risk and process safety practices going forward.


You will be responsible for designing, leading, and managing a comprehensive operational risk management framework for the Ixom Group with specific focus on Critical Risk, Process Safety and MHF management.


Due to the dynamic nature of our business, and our variety of locations, we are flexible with where this role is based.

You could be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth or Mount Maunganui - New Zealand.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve Ixom Global Critical Risk Standards
  • Develop, maintain and continuously improve Ixom Global Critical Control Management Procedures
  • Complete Critical Control Adequacy Assessments
  • Deployment of Critical Control Effectiveness Tests
  • Maintainer of Ixom Critical Risk profile
  • Facilitate detailed (SQRA, bowtie, LOPA etc) critical risk assessments as Ixom's most senior facilitator
  • Ixom Subject Matter Expert (SME) for risk assessment processes (internally and externally)
  • Develop/grow and approve Risk Assessment and Hazard Study facilitators
  • Business Hazard Study Manager approves all Hazard Study Leaders on a project basis
  • Support MHF Safety Case Submissions
  • Deliver Critical Risk Profile and Process Safety Board Level Reporting

Your skills & experience

  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering or Risk Engineering (or similar)
  • 10 years' experience (preferably in Major Hazard Facilities, heavy industry, supply chain, hazardous materials)
  • Experience in chemicals, dangerous goods or petrochemicals as well as being a Certified Process Safety Professional will be highly regarded
  • 5 years+ technical/operational/ risk management experience
  • Working knowledge of relevant Australian/NZ WHS and Major Hazard Facility legislation and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to identify changes in global regulatory frameworks and adapt corporate risk strategies and systems as required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to influence, lead and build project teams
  • Sound understanding of finance and business management practices
  • Ability to communicate with senior leadership and Board members
  • Membership of the AIHS as a signatory to its code of ethics will be highly regarded
