Job Title: Service Reliability Engineer (SRE)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: As a Service Reliability Engineer, your main goal will be to enhance Application teams' capability to consistently and dependably deliver applications by establishing standardized automation for a common continuous deployment pipeline across functional engineering teams. Additionally, you will handle tasks like change management, problem management, incident management, performance improvement, and automation/tool development.

You will be required to perform well under pressure, collaborate effectively with others, be self-motivated, and oversee both short and long term projects. A crucial aspect of this role will be implementing automation for starting, monitoring, managing, and supporting applications. Communication and teamwork are essential as you will engage with software developers, network engineers, system administrators, storage experts, project managers, and database administrators.

Main Responsibilities:

- Application Support:

  • Proactively manage incidents in coordination with frontline services and Incident Response Team.
  • Respond to incidents by monitoring, setting up alerting for auto-recovery, and providing automation for auto-recovery. Analyze root causes, communicate with development teams, and implement monitoring and automation for future occurrences.
  • Assist in debugging application and performance issues.
  • Support application deployments, system building, and system upgrades while adhering to security and privacy guidelines.

- Service Automation:

  • Contribute to designing and developing tools and processes for operations support. Utilize scripting for building necessary automation and tools as required.
  • Develop automation for rapid and secure instance deployment.
  • Design, create, and utilize monitoring tools to identify and resolve problems, escalating to development when necessary to meet Service Level Agreements.

- Continuous Improvement:

  • Take responsibility for an application platform based on SLA, NFR, and operability standards.
  • Contribute to defining SLAs, OLAs, and NFR.
  • Utilize monitoring tools effectively to ensure SLA and OLA compliance.
  • Drive process reengineering and optimization.
  • Lead with innovative and efficient technology solutions.
  • Enhance service delivery to customers through continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with application owners and middleware teams to define operational/non-functional requirements.
  • Document configuration processes and policies.

Relevant Work Experience:

  • Proficiency in Operating Systems like Linux/Unix, including operational and infrastructure support, with a minimum of 1+ years of hands-on experience in Linux administration.
  • Strong scripting abilities for automation in languages such as Ansible and Python.
  • Understanding of ITIL processes.
  • Knowledge of automation tools like Jenkins, Ansible, Python, Git, and HP Fortify.
  • Practical experience in IT operations, particularly in critical environments.
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities systematically, following methodologies like Lean Management or Six Sigma.
  • Familiarity with Project Management Fundamentals.
  • Understanding of DevOps concepts and tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD and implementing measurements and alerting in complex environments using tools like ElasticSearch, Kibana, and Grafana.
  • Familiarity with major cloud providers (e.g., AWS/Azure) and cloud concepts (AZ900 certification is advantageous).
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and OpenShift.
  • Basic understanding of relational databases like MySQL and Oracle.
  • Exposure to NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Couchbase (preferred).
  • Fundamental knowledge of processes (e.g., six sigma yellow belt).
