Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW.

It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care.

Royal North Shore Hospital provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services.

The campus is also home to The Kolling - a medical research institute jointly governed with the University of Sydney

What you'll be doing


The Thyroid Cancer research fellow is a 0.5FTE position based in the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Royal North Shore Hospital.

The fellow will conduct and facilitate collaborative research projects to contribute to scholarly knowledge that leads to better patient outcomes and to develop skills and understanding of the quality research which includes research methods, ethics, obtaining informed consent, recruiting and supervising participants, and understanding scientific methods.

They may also participate in the Department's quality assurance activities to ensure that appropriate standards are maintained, gaps in meeting national safety and quality standards are identified and raised, and to contribute to the department and service provided by the hospital.

The research fellow in Endocrinology is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must:

  • Have the ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.
  • Be able to work cooperatively as a member and contributor in a complex multidisciplinary team
  • Be able to provide and participate in performance monitoring.
  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Completion of at least four postgraduate years and passed written and practical components of the Divisional Clinical Exam (DCE)
  • Demonstrated interest in Endocrinology
  • Understands the role of the endocrinologist in complex clinical settings, identifying current major issues in endocrine research, clinical practice or health care delivery.
  • Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team diligence, punctuality, organisation, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills and team work.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and nonmedical colleagues. Demonstrates ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education, research and teaching. Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
