    Job description:
  • This position assists the Director of Public Prosecutions in the conduct and management of the business of the Criminal Division by leading the statewide Witness Assistance Service within the framework of Director of Public Prosecutions practices and standards and legislation.

Hours per fortnight:

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Duties:

  • Provide professional leadership, guidance and supervision to Witness Assistance Officers with a focus on the ongoing development of knowledge, competence and professional judgment, and adherence to ethics practices and standards.
  • Undertake the development, coordination and delivery of the services provided by the program, including ongoing evaluation, monitoring and quality assurance for the work undertaken by Witness Assistance Officers.
  • Contribute directly to the formulation of policy for the DPP through provision of authoritative professional advice based on indepth professional knowledge;
  • Undertake professional witness assistance work in complex cases including;
  • Provision of assessment and case planning in conjunction with assigned prosecutors;
  • Support of witnesses through case conferences with prosecutors;
  • Support in charge negotiation processes;
  • Support during decision making in matters which do not proceed;
  • Support of witnesses through pretrial evidentiary conferences;
  • Court preparation including witness survival skills;
  • Liaison with other service providers to coordinate client support services; and
  • Post court debriefing and outcomes conferences with prosecutors.
  • Contribute to the operations of the DPP by providing support, professional advice, information, high level research and appropriate liaison.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant stakeholders and represent the DPP on professional matters.
  • Assist in the training of Crown Prosecutors and Witness Assistance Officers.

Essential Requirements:

  • A degree of at least three years duration relevant to the professional duties to be undertaken is required, as provided by a recognised university.
