About this role


The Marketing and Communication Officer at the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) plays a crucial role in promoting the organisation's wide-ranging initiatives and immunisation research activities.

In this role you will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies that effectively engage diverse and often difficult to reach audiences to raise awareness and utilisation of the outputs NCIRS program areas.


In this role, you will work alongside a small team of like-minded comms professionals to develop marketing strategies, engaging content and impactful communication materials.

You will also work closely with our expert team of researchers and health professionals, translating complex technical messages into plain English to craft compelling content for a range of channels including news items, newsletters, media releases and web updates.

About you

This appointment will be full time temporary until 30 June 2025, with a strong possibility of extension. What you'll be doing
The Marketing and Communication Officer NCIRS supports the execution of marketing and communication programs for designated NCIRS program areas.

The Marketing and Communication Officer will work to develop and deliver high quality and effective communications outputs across various channels, primarily for the designated program areas but also provide communication support across the whole of NCIRS.


The Marketing and Communication Officer will work within the Marketing and Communications Team to deliver marketing and communications objectives for NCIRS with a focus on driving marketing and communications activities for designated program areas.

The Marketing and Communication Officer will also support media activities, in liaison with the Senior Media and Communications Officer for NCIRS.


About NCIRS


NCIRS is the leading organisation i n Australia in immunisation and vaccines that provides expert advice to support evidence-informed immunisation policy and guideline development, evaluation of immunisation programs, particularly the National Immunisation Program, and the monitoring of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine coverage and factors impacting uptake, and vaccine safety.

NCIRS has national and international recognition in this arena and also has a growing program of international work, focused on providing technical support for immunisation system strengthening to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.


The Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all-age research remit and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID) at the University of Sydney.

NCIRS is funded primarily by the Australian Government and NSW Government, as well as via grants from WHO, Gavi, and research granting bodies.


  • A relevant degree in Communications, or Marketing or equivalent demonstrated experience. Experience in a communications position or similar role preferably within a health care setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communications including capacity to develop written and visual communication for various audiences and platforms with experience communicating complex technical messages in plain English.
